2020 Exhibition – Narrow Gauge Railways in Literature

2020 marks the 75th anniversary of the publication of the first of the Railway Series books written by the Rev. Wilbert Vere Awdry – the Three Railway Engines. This exhibition marks this anniversary and celebrates more widely how narrow gauge railways have featured in literature.

A Greeting;-

My father and I first visited the Talyllyn Railway in 1952, saw No.1 “Talyllyn” under its shelter at Pendre and got permission from Tom Rolt to walk the line, which we did to Rhydyronen and back. Father always felt a great affection for the Talyllyn, introducing the Skarloey Railway as the tenth title in his Railway Series. He would be touched by this exhibition, and I am delighted to pass on what I know would be his good wishes, added to my own, for the success of it.
