Weekly Exhibit

The temporary exhibition this year features Bord na Mona, the Irish peat working railways. When one of their steam locomotives arrived at Tywyn to form the basis of Talyllyn Railway locomotive No.7, it was nicknamed ‘Irish Pete’. It retained this name for many years until a TR AGM agreed to officially name it ‘Tom Rolt’, prior to its entry into service. Among our collection is a nameplate commemorating its nickname, which is on display in the exhibition.
